Is It ‘Cross Season Yet?

I have been looking at the AZCROSS schedule and just got the details for the Heavy Metal Hammerfest yesterday at the shop. I am pretty stoked for the season for sure. I don’t really know what to expect from my first racing season, but I want to go into it in better shape than I am in now. Hopefully I will be racing on a new All-City Nature Boy.

I spent a considerable part of my day today just working on my stoke. I rewatched the video from the Wolfpack Hustle Marathon Crash Race and also  just watched a pretty amazing video about a custom bike shop in NYC called 718 Cyclery.

Desert Classic All To Myself

I rode mtb out at South Mountain again today – what a great start to a day off. I only saw two other people out on DC. It was warm, but awesome. I didn’t make it to any bike shops (what else would a bike mechanic do on their days away from the shop?) today, but there is still time. Also, the new Aesop Rock CD comes out today – gotta stop at Hoodlums while it is still open.

I had been shooting for 7 hours per week of riding lately – I only rode around 3 hours last week, and all of it was on the road. This week I am aiming for 10 hours – it’s Tuesday and I am 3.5 hours in – a good start.

Outside of riding, there have been many things taking up my psychic energy – namely a couple of anniversary celebrations and the death of a friend.

I cannot remember if I mentioned it before, but I saw an All-City Nature Boy in person at Rage Bicycles last week on my day off. I had spoken to a mechanic in Ohio that had worked on one, but I hadn’t seen one in person. The mechanic at Rage confirmed how well they are built, but it was obvious just seeing it how well put-together they are. I felt desperate for the bicycle when I walked into the shop. I haven’t really felt desperate for a bicycle since back at summer camp in 2010 – I was riding around camp on my Marin Bolinas Ridge (my first mountain bike purchase, back in the Fall of 2009) and ended up talking 29ers. I knew, deep in my soul that I needed big wheels, and by the time the camp season ended and I found myself back in Arizona, I was desperate.

And now I am desperate for the single-speed cross machine from Minneapolis.
